Faith is a divine gift, and no human being can earn his salvation. Faith requires our free-will response shown through good works. The Church rejects the notion of predestination without free will, while affirming that God desires all to be saved.
Steve Hessman’s reflections: "Amen, Amen. Unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat; but if it dies, it produces much fruit." John 12:24
They needed a Shepherd to guide them
“For they were like sheep without a shepherd”
By Steve Hall

There is no spiritual plateau upon which we can rest. The Shepherd is always on the move, leading to greener pastures and fresher waters. The blessings belong to us but we must keep following if we wish to claim them. A spiritual “more” is always within reach.
Steve Hall's reflections: For our knowledge is imperfect and our prophecy is imperfect; but when the perfect comes, the imperfect will pass away. (1 Corinthians 13:9)
